In celebration of Nation Girls and Women in Sports Month (NGWSM), we are celebrating several of our student athletes participating in girls sports. Today, we will celebrate Girls Wrestling and team member, Aliyah Brooks.
Aliyah , a freshman, is a member of the JCHS Wrestling program. Aliyah will be participating in the IHSA Sectional for Girls Wrestling this weekend. Aliyah will be the first JCHS Wrestler to compete in the IHSA Girls State Series. In prior years, we have had girls participate in the wrestling program, but they had to compete in the Boys State Series. Winter of 2022 was the inaugural IHSA State Series for Girls Wrestling.
Aliyah's quote in celebration of NGWSM is, "The amount of wins you have doesn't make you better, the amount of work you put in does." Good luck to Aliyah in the IHSA Girls Wrestling Sectional! Jersey 100 is proud you!
JCHS Head Coach Frank Speidel was asked about NGWSM and Girls Wrestling. "Women's wrestling continues to grow. It is now an IHSA sanctioned sport, and the women who chose to wrestle are trailblazers who buck conventional wisdom that women can't compete in combat sports and they can't compete with boys. My girls prove conventional wisdom wrong every day."
