We're excited to announce the launch of our new Perry weather widget! This handy widget will give you the latest weather forecast. You can see the current temperature, real feel, wind speed, wet bulb globe temperature and basic forecast for the next few days. Another great tool on the widget is a 10 mile lightning detector from each weather station. You can find the widget on the jersey100.org website under "Athletic Schedules".
We also have a Perry Weather Station located on the roof at JCHS and one located on the roof of the baseball concession stand at the Don Snyders Sports Complex. These stations provide pertinent and real time weather information. The weather stations also have a public announcement function. If the area needs to be cleared due to lightning in the area, a public announcement will be made to let players and fans know to seek shelter.
The heat wave this week is causing our athletic programs to be creative with practice times and locations. We are anticipating rescheduling a lot of events or postponing start times. Per the IHSA and IESA, we look at Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) to determine if we can compete or practice. WBGT is a measure of the heat stress in direct sunlight. Factors taken into account for WBGT are, temperature, humidity, wind speed, sung angle and cloud cover.
